Nancy Schlichting

Retired CEO, Henry Ford Health System

Nancy M. Schlichting is retired Chief Executive Officer of Henry Ford Health System (HFHS), a nationally recognized $5 billion health care organization with 27,000 employees and recipient of the 2011 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.  She is credited with leading the health system through a dramatic financial turnaround and for award-winning patient safety, customer service and diversity initiatives.

Among the many awards received, Schlichting was honored as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine, as well as named to the Top 25 Women in Healthcare.   

Author of the acclaimed book, Unconventional Leadership, Schlichting is a highly regarded expert and accomplished speaker on strategic leadership, quality, cultural transformation, community engagement, innovation, and diversity.

Indu Subaiya

CEO and Chairman, Health 2.0

Panelist

Indu is the CEO and Co-Chairman of Health 2.0, the leading conference and media platform company that promotes, showcases and catalyzes new technologies in healthcare through a worldwide series of conferences, code-a-thons, prize challenges, and more. Her guests have included Chelsea Clinton, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, Tim O’Reilly, Aneesh Chopra and hundreds of other health, tech and media luminaries. Indu has moderated panels and hosted conferences around the world as Health 2.0’s innovator community has grown to over 110 cities globally.

Regarded as an engaging interviewer and thought leader on health technology issues, she has moderated panels at SXSW Interactive, The Clinton Health Matters Activation Summit, and USC/Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Indu also serves on advisory committees with the Office of the National Coordinator, the Department of Health and Human Services and the National Health Data Consortium.

 

Val Lyon

Director of Business and Finance, Cornell Health

Panelist

Valerie Lyon serves as the Director of Business and Finance for Cornell Health. During her career at Cornell, her passion and interest has been focused on improving access to care for college students. She played a key role in securing approval and funding for a $55 million health care facility expansion and renovation project (scheduled for completion Summer 2017) which will house integrated health and counseling services. She was also involved in the transition for the funding (summer 2015) for Cornell Health to a pre-paid funding, equalizing access to care for all students regardless of income or insurance status.

Nationally, she is known for her efforts to promote and advocate for high quality student health plans and policy initiatives that improve access to care for college health students. She is on the leadership team for the American College Student Health Insurance/Benefits Coalition, serving as Chair of the Coalition during the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.  She is a co-organizer of the Lookout Mountain Group which is a non-profit group devoted to advocating for the health care access and insurance needs of college students.

 

In addition to Sloan (class of 1991), Val holds a BS from Ithaca College. She is originally from the Finger Lakes and enjoys all aspects of living in the Ithaca. She is an avid cyclist and enjoys hiking, skiing and sailing.  She is looking forward to her youngest graduating from Cornell class of 2017.

Amy Horrocks

Vice President, NYU Langone Medical Center

Panelist

As vice president for hospital operations at NYU Langone Medical Center, Amy Horrocks has administrative oversight for a number of medical, emergency and support services.  She joined the medical center in hospital operations in 1992. Her current areas of responsibility include medicine and the medical subspecialties, the emergency department and the 911 ambulance service, critical care services and dialysis, obstetrics and gynecology, and palliative care.  Working collaboratively with the department chairs, service chiefs, and nursing leadership, Amy provides administrative and operational oversight to these clinical services.  In addition, her responsibilities include patient placement and the transfer center, food and nutrition services, patient transport and housekeeping services, as well as the administrative fellowship program.

Amy serves on the board of Only Make Believe, a nonprofit organization that creates and performs interactive theatre for children in hospitals and care facilities throughout the New York City area and Washington, DC.  Amy holds a bachelor’s of science in policy analysis and a master’s of health administration, both from Cornell University.  She is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Liebe Meier Swain

Plan and Research Associate, Cornell Health

Panelist

Liebe Meier Swain is stepping out of the early career phase of her professional healthcare experience and continuing to find creative ways to improve on the individual health experience. Liebe is presently a Planning and Research Associate for Cornell Health, where her responsibilities include the financial and operational planning and management of the Student Health Plan serving over 20,000 students. Prior to Cornell, she spent seven years engaged in strategic planning and population health strategy development at Cayuga Medical Center, a community hospital.

In addition to being a Sloanie, class of 2008, Liebe also has a Masters of Arts in Religion (MAR) from Yale Divinity School, and a BA in Psychology from Well College. Liebe is an ACHE Fellow, a Sloan Alumni Association board member, and a founding and current member of the Sloan Women in Leadership.
 

Liebe is a proud and grateful momma of two (hopefully) Legacy kids—classes of 2032 and 2035 (good grief)! Dedicated to a life-time of learning, she is currently steeped in repeated life-lessons such as bravery, sharing, effective communication, emotional management and negotiations at her place of residence. During study breaks, Liebe enjoys gardening, running and going to the beach.

Jamie Perry

Assistant Professor of Human Resources Management, Rachel Etess Green ’98 and Jason Green Faculty Fellow, School of Hotel Administration, Cornell University

Panelist

Professor Jamie Perry is an Assistant Professor of Human Resources Management and the Rachel Etess Green ’98 and Jason Green Faculty Fellow.

 

Professor Perry’s work focuses on team effectiveness, with an interest in how compositional factors and conflict influence team dynamics. Specifically, she explores how power and status impact interactions within the workplace and broader society. Her work has been published in academic journals such as Personnel Psychology, American Psychologist, Psychological Bulletin and Academy of Management Annals. Professor Perry received the 2015 Rutgers Business School Academic Excellence Award. She is also the recipient of the 2016 Society of Industrial Organizational Psychology S. Rains Wallace Dissertation Award.

 

Professor Perry received her M.A. in psychology and Ph.D. in organization management from Rutgers University.

Katherine Rogers

Senior Managerial Consultant, The Permanente Medical Group

Panelist

Katherine Rogers is a native WNYer who studied Psychology and Visual Arts at St. Bonaventure University. Post graduation she joined the staff at a residential children's home in Chicago where she acted as a mentor, teacher, supervisor at the young women's campus. Her five years of experience, including helping the young women navigate the community medical systems, inspired her to pursue a career focusing on disparities in healthcare, which led her to Cornell's Sloan Program for Health Administration. With MHA in hand, Katherine joined Kaiser Permanente in Northern California as an Administrative Fellow and focused her rotations on improving care for vulnerable populations. Katherine has since transitioned into her role as a regional consultant for The Permanente Medical Group. She is leading Northern California strategy for complex needs patients and redesigning care models in partnership with local medical center executive leadership, regional healthplan partners, and the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research.
